Midtown West is a predominantly commercial neighborhood in the center of Manhattan bounded by Central Park to the north, Fifth Avenue to the east, Eight Avenue to the west and 30th street to the south. While many people consider Clinton to be part of Midtown West, for the purpose of this article it is treated separately. Moreover, the area between 30th and 35th street, west of 8th avenue is also classified as Midtown West but as the area has recently been rezoned and renamed Hudson Yards. As a rule of thumb the core of midtown west is the area below central park.
Midtown West is the headquarters of many of the world’s largest corporations and the retail infrastructure is primarily geared for office worker traffic. Major tourist and transportation infrastructure is located in Midtown West, which makes for very heavy pedestrian traffic. Midtown West is home to many destinations for visitors, including Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Theater District, the MoMA, and Carnegie Hall.
